Global Service day on Saturday 6 July 2019 at Beacon Hill Country Park
Every year the Service Team plan a day out for the elderly, disabled and Centre guests in July. This year was no different as we decided to go back to Beacon Hill Country Park, as it was such a great success last year, and based on the positive feedback from those that we invited. We also booked a village hall in case there was a change in the weather.
After months of planning, the day arrived and some volunteers went to the park to setup and get ready for the arrival of our guests. The guests were collected by volunteers’ cars and the LCC minibuses that we had hired, and all in all we had 58 guests on the day. The day looked overcast when we all set off but we were optimistic that it would brighten up as the forecast was that there would be a short drizzle but then sunny spell will return. As all the guests arrived at the park, they were served light refreshments, there was light rain, but instead of ceasing, it started to rain even more. We then decided for health and safety reasons, to pack up and head towards the hall that we had booked, which turned out to be a really good decision.
The rain continued but at least we were indoors! The village hall provide really good facilities and we continued with our programme of art and craft by the SSE gurus, followed by a sumptuous lunch (but alas no gulab jambu) and then on to everyone’s favourite Bingo. We had wonderful songs by Ronnie, who sang the sixties favourites, such as Rocking Around the Clock and then Madhuben with a Bollywood song. Nalin had a surprise birthday cake and a birthday song to go with it, which capped a wonderful day out for all who attended.
Thank you to Swami for making another wonderful day for all.
