Announcements & News for May 2019

"Buddha is not a personal name. A Buddha is one who is spiritually enlightened, mentally awakened and who has realised the Supreme Truth. He is one who practises unity of thought, word and action. His heart is ever full of compassion and love."

Sathya Sai Baba

Jai Sai Ram, We are blessed that Swami has provided us with the Sathya Sai Organsiation which provides so many opportunities for us to develop ourselves further and proceed in our spiritual transformation.  It only takes one small step for us to try and experience these opportunities.  We really hope you take the step this month and join us for some of the below activities and experience the bliss which you can derive from them.

Buddha Purnima Celebrations

On Sunday 19th May we will be celebrating the festival of Buddha Purnima from 9:00am to 11:30am at Soar Valley College.
We are extremely fortunate to have Brother Kausala Mendis, from the local Buddhist Vihara join us on this day.  Brother Mendis will conduct some guided meditation and also present a talk on the teachings of Lord Buddha.

Health Awareness Day at The Bridge

On Sunday 14th May we will be hosting our sixth Health Awareness Day at The Bridge for the homeless guests.  The focus of this day will be on conducting various health checks including testing for Hepatitis C.  In addition to that we will have a group of GPs and psychiatrists offering specialist help to our guests.  If you would like to help on the day in any capacity please contact one of our service coordinators.

As many of you will know, our Muslim brothers and sisters are fasting for Ramadan this month.  The month of fasting will culminate with the festival of Eid-al-Fitr.  To mark this occasion we will be having a special programme of bhajans, qawaalis and a guest speaker on Sunday 2nd June from 9:00am to 11:00:am at Soar Valley College.

Sunday After Bhajan Activities

Girishbhai continues his series of parenting workshops on Sunday 12th May.  This month the topic will be “Peer pressure among children”. The topic will discuss the effects of peer pressure on children and ways you can support them to recognise the issue and manage it in a meaningful way.  As always it will be an interactive session trying to bridge science and Baba's teachings. The workshops are held after bhajans at Soar Valley College.

Marine will be leading the Vedam classes on Sunday 26th May.  This is a great way for you to learn how to recite the vedam and also understand their inner significance.  The class will run after bhajans from 10:30am.
