Study Circle – Ceiling on Desires Sunday 14 July 2024

  • Ceiling on Desires was introduced by Swami back in 1983 and is the 9th point in the Nine-point code of conduct prescribed by Bhagawan
  • Its purpose was NOT to raise funds but to improve the welfare of mankind and to put brakes on harmful desires and practices

There appears to be real confusion as to the true meaning of Ceiling on desires.

Q1 What is your understanding of this ? What are the 4 main components of ceiling on desires?

The 4 main components are:

  • 1) Curb on wastage of money
  • 2) Do not waste food
  • 3) Do not waste Energy
  • 4)Do not waste Time

Q2 Why does Bhagawan say that misuse of money is a great evil? Let us discuss the effects of misuse of money and how it leads us to bad habits thus leading us away from our spiritual path?

  • Swami says Money is Dhaivaswaroopam… meaning it is embodiment of Divinity
  • Money is Laxmi and God is wealth and for this reason many amongst us pray and perform Laxmi Puja during Diwali on Dhanteras Day. For this reason one has to use money with respect dignity and caution
  • When you talk of wealth avoid unreasonable accumulation and extravagant expenditures
  • Swami says even in the purchase of garlands you need not waste money. What God wants is the flower of your heart that is filled with humility and devotion
  • The money you save can be used for noble causes of your friends family and the needy. Make proper use of your money. Spend it wisely and sacredly
  • Spend only when it is necessary
  • Misuse of money is not only evil but is a sin..Don’t waste money simply because you have plenty of it. If you misuse money you may acquire bad habits, go down a wrong path, grow in ego and develop bad qualities and attract bad company
  • Today’s youth especially are wasting money in several ways, leading to bad habits, loss of peace of mind and ruining their lives.
