Dharmic Challenges – Part 2

Quick revision of previous sessions

  1. Dharma is the foundation of the welfare of humanity
  2. Dharma is needed so we can live in peace and the whole world can enjoy peace
  3. God is the embodiment of Dharma.  HE is Dharma itself
  4. Dharma is the moral path characterised by Holiness, peace, truth and fortitude
  5. When Dharma declines, the Lord comes in the form of incarnation to re-establish Dharma

What is the greatest ignorance that we think & practice?

  • I am this body and not the Atma within

Can Dharma be ever destroyed? Explain

  • Dharma can never be destroyed
  • It may seem to have disappeared due to the decline of its practice by humans
  • Thick clouds may cover the sun and people may not be able to see it, but the sun is always there
  • The sun of Sathya and the sunlight of Dharma can never be destroyed

Are we always able to practice what we preach?  What are the challenges and what is the solution?

The Challenges are:

  • Conflicts between people
  • Difficult situations
  • Peer pressure
  • Competition and desire to achieve the results by whatever means
  • Unlimited Desires

The Solution is:

  • Speak less and with caution.  Check whether we are following what we are preaching before speaking
  • Do not respond in haste – think and respond
  • Do not give in to peer pressure, family or society pressure when following your ideals
  • Entertain limited and dharmic desires
  • Remove ego, jealousy, hatred and anger, etc.

There are occasions when we talk ill of others or we criticise them.  Why are we not able to refrain from doing this?  What is the solution to this problem?

  • Be mindful of Swami’s 9 Points of Conduct.  Do not speak ill of others especially in their absence
  • Remember Swami’s message – You cannot always oblige but you can always speak obligingly
  • Practice and spread Love
  • Swami says Right vision and right listening lead to right speech.  Your speech should be good.  Never utter harsh words
