On Monday 26th August 2024, the Leicester Sai Centres celebrated the auspicious festival of Krishna Janmashtami.
Sanjaybhai reminded us at the beginning of the programme that Swami has said: “God appeared as Krishna to charm humanity by His pranks, His play, His song and sweetness, and to instruct man by His teaching and Grace.”
The joyful programme consisted of a beautiful musical offering from the young adults. Sister Deepa led the offering with the chanting of the Madhurashtakam which was then followed by the melodious bhajan “Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram”.
Thereafter we were blessed to listen to Swami’s discourse, where Swami shared the auspicious details of the birth of Lord Krishna. This was followed by a full hour of the most enchanting and vibrant bhajans singing the glories and attributes of Sai Krishna.
The bhajans were followed by a Krishna Janmashtami video from the Sri Sathya Sai Media centre which told us the story of how Swami set-up the Gokulum in Prashanti Nilayam and how till today it is maintained with the welfare and well-being of the sacred cows at the forefront.
The programme came to a joyful conclusion with the Jhoola ceremony, where all the devotees had the opportunity to swing baby Krishna’s cot and take His darshan. At the same time Chotubhai and Bhartiben greeted all the devotees with colourful powder which provided much fun and joy to the evening.
We ended the evening programme with Swami’s Aarti and closing prayers.
The entire programme allowed us to fill ourselves with the bliss of Sai Krishna just like the Gopis were entranced by the Krishna Avathar with this wonderful programme.
