EGO

Question – How does one recognise Ego in oneself? What are the key        indicators of this.

  • Get upset – uneasy or angry when their point of view is not recognised.
  • Dominates in conversations – constantly talking about yourself

(Excessive focus on self) and your achievements. Poor listener.

  • Interrupting others – valuing your opinion so highly that you do not allow others to finishing speaking.
  • The need to win Arguments – an inability to back down. Needing to prove you are right and refusing to consider other’s view point.
  • They always need validation. If they are not being praised, they feel invisible.
  • They take everything personally. Enen constructive criticism feels like a personal insult. (Inability to accept criticism)
  • They can’t admit when they are wrong even with evidence, they will twist the story to protect their pride. Always needing to be right.

Question – What must we do to ensure that Ego has minimum impact on our lives?

  • Engage ourselves in selfless service.
  • Stop getting offended. Don’t let small thing upset you.
  • Practice humility and empathy. You will learn to understand that nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.
  • You are not always right. Let go of the need to always be right. It’s okay to let others win.
  • Accept feedback – viewing it as an opportunity for personal growth.
  • Don’t be superior.
  • Cultivate patience. Your Ego wants to control every single thing in your life.
